Our Optometrists

Dr. Riya Philip

Dr. Riya Philip completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She then received her Doctor of Optometry degree from Illinois College of Optometry (ICO) with clinical honors in 2021. She further pursued her residency training at Lexington VA, in Lexington, KY. She specialized in ocular disease with an emphasis on low vision rehabilitation, specialty contact lenses, and traumatic/acquired brain injury.

During her clinical externships, Dr. Philip, received training at the Illinois Eye Institute, Michiana Eye Center in Indiana, Villages VAMC in Florida, and Barnes Crossing Vision Center in Mississippi. While at ICO, Dr. Philip was awarded the best tutor award, a low vision service award. She is a member of the Illinois Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, and Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity.
Dr. Philip focuses on patient relationships and specializes in primary eye care/ocular disease, urgent eye care, contact lens fitting, and low vision rehabilitation.

In her spare time, Dr. Philip loves to read, travel, and explore new restaurants.

Dr. Tam Tran

Dr. Tam Tran graduated cum laude from the Illinois College of Optometry (ICO) in 2021. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biotechnology from the University of California-Davis and went on to join Stanford University to conduct research at the Carnegie Institution for Science, where he became fascinated with genetics and microbiology. He completed a second bachelor’s degree in Clinical Science at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

Dr. Tran then worked at Mayo Clinic for four years in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology. His time at Mayo Clinic ignited his passion for optometry and subsequently chose ICO to pursue his goal of becoming an optometrist. During his study at ICO, Dr. Tran received many recognitions for his academic performance and leadership from the Gold Key International Optometric Honor Society, Tomb and Key Honor Society, and Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society.

His key awards include ASCO Student Award in Clinical Ethics, Cribb Leadership & Service Award, and ICO Research Award. In addition, he actively volunteers in the optometric community, such as Illinois Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, and Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity.

Dr. Tran strongly believes in a patient-first philosophy, and his clinical interests include contact lens fitting, primary/urgent eye care, and management of complex ocular diseases, including cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and dry eye. During his time off, Dr. Tran loves traveling, hiking, photography, and playing tennis.
